Independent guides worth reading before you commit to any subscription or lease.

We believe in giving you the full picture before you commit to a car or van subscription, lease or hire agreement. Alongside our own guides, here are some independent, third-party resources that compare providers and explain the market in more detail.

Understanding EV, PHEV, MHEV and HEV

BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle): runs purely on a battery and electric motor, with no engine and no tailpipe emissions.

PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle): combines a chargeable battery offering pure-electric range with a petrol or diesel engine for longer journeys.

HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle): uses a small battery charged by the engine and regenerative braking — it cannot be plugged in, and offers limited electric-only running.

MHEV (Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle): uses a small electric motor to assist the engine (e.g. under acceleration) and improve efficiency, but cannot drive on electric power alone.
